This challenge is for high school seniors (ages 16-18), so if you’re in that age group, this is your chance to show off your creativity and passion for sustainability. You can pick any type of appliance—whether it’s for the kitchen, laundry, or something smaller—and make it better with smarter, greener designs.

UE Scholarship “Green Genius Challenge”:

The first and second place winners receive the “Green Genius Challenge” scholarship, which provides them with a full scholarship for their entire studies at UE Dubai. This scholarship covers the tuition fees for the chosen degree programme.

Eligibility: Who can apply?

If you’re a high school senior (ages 16-18), this is your chance to shine! We’re looking for groundbreaking ideas for energy-and water-saving home appliances. Plus, we’re committed to making sure everyone can participate, including students with disabilities—we’ll provide all the support and accommodations you need.

Important note: This is an individual challenge, so no team submissions allowed. Also, if you or your family work for BSH Middle East, UE Dubai, or their affiliates, you’re not eligible to enter.

Here’s how to get started:

If you would like to apply for the “Green Genius Challenge: Bosch & BUE Dubai Eco-Appliance Edition”, you need to do the following:
1. Fill out the Application Form — Make sure you read through the terms and conditions carefully, especially regarding your personal data. Here is a link to the Application Form.
2. Get creative! What’s the purpose of your energy/water-saving appliance, and how does it work?
What cool features or technology does it use?
What specific energy/water-saving problem does your solution solve?
What’s your plan for making this idea a reality?
Walk us through your creative process and why your solution stands out.

Prof. Dr. Eman Aboukhousa

Jury Chair, Prof. for Information Technology and Communication at UE Dubai
Prof. Dr. Eman Abukhousa is a seasoned academic and enterprise systems specialist, currently Professor of Data Science at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Dubai (UE Dubai). Holding a Ph.D. in Information Technology from the UAE University, with a focus on Big Data Analytics, she excels in digital transformation and data analytics, particularly in maximizing IT solution value. Her research has centered on data-driven strategies in higher education, enhancing personalized learning and career development.
Prof. Abukhousa co-founded Anchor IT Consultancy in Dubai, where she has led significant digital transformation projects across the Middle East, including the successful rollout of a Hospital Information System at Tawam Hospital. Her ability to blend academic insight with practical application is a hallmark of her work.
With over 20 years of experience, Prof. Abukhousa has held various academic roles, including positions at the Higher Colleges of Technology and Modul University in Dubai. Her teaching, infused with practical industry insights, prepares students to be global citizens and succeed in the digital age. Recognized by UNEP and UNSSC as a Digital4Sustainability Champion, she is also a certified CoDesignS ESD mentor, committed to sustainable and impactful education.

Ergun Faik Serkan, Chief Finance Officer BSH Home Appliances Middle East

Faik Serkan Ergun is an experienced financial executive with a proven track record in strategic management across the consumer goods and energy sectors. Currently, he holds the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and serves as an Executive Board Member at BSH Home Appliances Middle East. With a deep expertise in financial oversight and strategic planning, Serkan is involved in driving organizational success in competitive markets. He holds a Magister Degree in Business Administration, specializing in Industrial Management and Banking, from WU Wien. Additionally, he contributes his expertise to the academic community as a member of the Honorary Senate at UE.

H.E. Sybille Pfaff, Consul General German Embassy

Sybille Pfaff studied law at the University of Passau/ Germany and at King's College London/ UK. After a brief stint as a lawyer, she joined the German Foreign Service in 2000. Besides various assignments at the Foreign Office head quarters, she headed the Legal and Consular Sections at the embassies in Copenhagen from 2002 to 2005, and in Belgrade from 2007 to 2011, where she also worked in the Political Section. During an extended period at the Foreign Office, she served in the Disarmament and later the Economic Division, before leading the Department of Civil Law from 2017 to 2018 and the Department of Personnel Policy from 2018 to 2021.
After a year of preparation for her assignment, she has been serving as German Consul General in Dubai since August 2022.
  

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, The Green Sheikh

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi is a member of the royal family of the Emirate of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates, Environmental Advisor to the government of Ajman, Chief Executive Officer of Al Ihsan Charity Association, and the founder of the Green Sheikh Academy.

He obtained a PhD degree in Ecosystems and Cleaner Production from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia; Master degree in Environmental Management and Science; Bachelor degree of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. He also graduated from the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst, obtaining various diplomas in environmental and leadership studies along the way.

He is a recognized international ambassador of social responsibility and the second Arab ambassador for the Global Organization for Protecting Earth and Spreading Peace Among People. Moreover, he was awarded an Order of Merit – First Class from the President of Sudan on social responsibility. Proclaimed by the Mayor of Edmonton, 10th of October of every year is called a “Green Sheikh Day” in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Furthermore, the 25th of September is named “Sheikh Abdul Aziz Day” in Miami, Florida, USA, where he was also given the keys to the city. He was awarded the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice.
