Pre-intensive Course for Programming

For the master’s programmes in Software Engineering and Data Science, we have the admission requirement of basic programming skills (3 ECTS). We are offering the pre-course Programming in a digital format – as an additional offer for those who do not fulfil the admission requirements. This pre-master’s programme is also open to anyone looking to gain a programming certificate.

During the intensive programming course, you will learn the basic principles of object-oriented programming through practical exercises and self-study. You will find out how to declare and use variables and understand the fundamentals of programming. Also, you will master the use of different data types and expand your knowledge of objects and inheritance in Java.

Preparation week

There is a preparation week before the pre-course, during which you will need to prepare yourself with some of the learning content in advance. All activities in the preparation week are to be completed on demand and at your own pace. You will have access to all learning materials in a shared cloud folder one week before the start of the pre-course. For more information, please download the syllabus above.

Workload & Assessment information

Allocation of workload:
10 hours: Video lectures, readings & introductory tasks (preparation week)
26 hours: Live sessions
38 hours: Self-study
1 hour: Final Exam/Project presentation 

Your assessments will be weighted as follows:
20%: Participation (online attendance)
20%: Solving Exercises during practical Sessions
60%: Online Final Exam

Software

Cloud: Before starting the course, you will receive access to our cloud learning platform for all on-demand lectures.
Zoom: You will need to have a free Zoom account set up ahead of the course, in order to join the live sessions during the course. 
Other Software: For this course, you will need to download Java Virtual Machine and Eclipse IDE. You will be provided with additional instructions ahead of the course.
